Optimization of Vacuum Forming Parameter Settings to Minimize Burning Defect on Strawberry Packaging Products Using the Taguchi Method

Packaging products are being developed by PT. ATMI IGI – Center. The process of making these uses the Vacuum forming method. packaging product is made PP (Polypropylene) and used to pack strawberries. There several problems during production process, one which that there still defects burning or often called burn marks. These caused machining parameters have not been standardized, based on trial eror experience operator. vacuum machine in this Formech 508FS Forming machine. optimized heat zone, time, stand temperature. Optimizing using Taguchi method, with an orthogonal array 9 trials, selected signal noise ratio (SNR) smaller better. response research reduction mark defects. results showed reduce defects, set parameter zone 1 90%, heating 2 80%, time 45s, temperature 60%. Based arrangement, obtained only reached 13%. IGI-Center expected be able use settings for strawberry process.
